Artists Biographies on Film: Top Movies about Visual Artists

Word Count:

Summary:
Here is a guide to the best movies that describes the life of visual artists.

Keywords:
visual artists biographies, Vincent Van Gogh biography, art, arts, entertainment

Article Body:
Visual artists biographies is a popular theme in the movie world. Moviemakers have always been fascinated by visual artists biographies, especially if it includes struggle with insanity, drug addiction or social conventions. In addition, it gives them an opportunity to depict original or resurrected artworks on the big screen.
Here you can read about some of the most interesting movies about visual artists biographies.
Lust for Life directed by Vincente Minnelli in 1952

Vincent Van Gogh biography had gained several cinematic adaptations. Lust for Life with Kirk Douglas as the struggling artist is one of the most notable. The movie is based on a best selling book by Irving Stone, who also authored The Agony and the Ecstasy about Michelangelo, which also had appeared on the silver screen.

If you are a fan of Van Gogh artwork, you would enjoy watching Last for Life, which features almost 200 of Van Goghs original paintings. However, if you are familiar with Kirk Douglas previous filmographic, seeing him as a tortured Dutch painter might take a little adjustment. Another recommended film about Van Gogh is Robert Altmans Vincent and Theo from 1990.

Surviving Picasso directed by James Ivory in 1996

Like Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso image made him an iconic figure outside the artistic circles. While Van Gogh symbolizes the self destructive, manic depressive artist who achieves success only after his death, Picasso represents the misanthropic and womanizer artist. Picasso infamous relationship with women is the focus of this Merchant and Ivory film. The story is told from the eyes of Picasso mistress Francoise Gilot and features only reproductions of Picasso works. With Anthony Hopkins talent and his physical resemblance to Picasso, Surviving Picasso manages to create an unflattering portrait of an artist as a cruel, self centered genius.

Girl with Pearl Earring directed by Peter Webber in 2003

Comparing to Van Gogh and Picasso, Vermeers biography is less known and less controversial. Therefore Girl with Pearl Earring is much more restrained and delicate. The movie focuses on a short period in Vermeers life in which he was painting the portrait of his young low class maid. Although Girl with Pearl Earring does not avoid filmic conventions by over dramatizing Vermeers painting process, the movie is worth watching if only for its artistic design, which success in evoking Vermeers perception of light and color.

Basquiat directed by Julian Schnabel in 1996

The most common critique against movies that deals with visual arts is the way they depict the creation process. Therefore, there were big expectations from Basquiat, which was directed by the celebrated painter Julian Schnabel. Schnabel did well in depicting Jean Michelle Basquiat rise and fall story in less the predictable manner we have seen millions time before. However, the only reason to watch Basquiat is David Bowie plays the role of Andy Warhol.

Frida directed by Julie Taymor in 2002

Like most of the visual artists who had their life story appear on the silver screen, Frida Kahlo carried an unusual biography, which includes bus accident, problematic marriage, and an affair with Leon Trotsky. Like Van Gogh, Picasso and Jackson Pollock, who was the subject of a biopic from 2000, Frida Kahlo was an icon long before Frida was released, but the 123 minutes film did help to strength her position as a feminist idol and probably the most famous woman painter of the 20 century. Frida tries its best to integrate Frida Kahlo life story with her painting and the result is very colorful and pleasant, but still does not stay far enough from the conventions of depicting artists on film.

"If you fail to prepare, you are preparing to fail"

Everyone thinking of starting a business needs to be prepared to move beyond conventional approaches. One of the most crucial factors in your business success is your ATTITUDE. Developing a positive attitude is your key to be able to reach your goals.

Your knowledge, your skills, your service or product quality, will not help you enough if you don't have a positive attitude. Many people failed in their business and the major reason of their failures is due to inadequate attitude. This brings me to an old statement "Your Attitude determines your Altitude," pretty much says it all!

Before jumping into online battle, there are several things you will want to consider. What does starting a home Business involve? What should you expect? And, are you suited to this lifestyle? As with any employment decision, the proper time and research should be spent to make sure you're on the right track.

To make sure you are in the right way, you should own certain markers' qualities that will help you on your path to success. Some of these qualities may be a part of your personality, but it is always worth making the effort to learn or improve upon skills that you need to use.

The main factor that affects everything in your life is your attitude.

What are attitudes?

Attitudes are internal characters of the heart and thoughts. They are the hidden intentions which will eventually serve as the basis for our actions.

Your attitude can affect everything you do in your life. Generally, if your attitude is bad and the desire just isn't there, you are burned out. If Your Attitude is bad you won't get very high. If your attitude is good, then your chances for success are great.

If you have a bad attitude the negativity will show in everything you do. No matter what you are doing, your results will be poor and your business will do poor. You CAN reach your goals, whatever they happen to be, if only you develope a positive attitude.

Developing a Positive Attitude

"Your attitude will determine your altitude."

If you have a bad attitude, you can change it if you WANT to. A bad attitude is immediately passed on to your customers and that's the quickest way to scare someone off. There are a lot of people who have great latent, but their attitude is the disqualifier of their life.

If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give your best effort, eventually you will overcome your immediate problems and find you are ready for greater challenges.

- Avoid spending time with negative people. Avoid spending time with people who make you anxious, or make you feel unhappy. These are the types of people that will drain your energy. A good thing for you to do instead is to hang out with great, positive people that suit your style. Their attitudes will be contagious.

- Learn to be self-confident. Be nice to everyone. That doesn't mean letting other people taking advantage of you.

- Help people to get what they want and you will get what you want.

- Be a problem-solver, and you will build your credibility and reputation as someone who gets things done.

Wyess said. "A good attitude makes you feel better. Others see this and judge you by that. People want to work in an upbeat environment, and attitudes play an important role in shaping the work environment."

You need to be self disciplined. "Discipline is a mark of a leader. "

Always do your best, use self-control, be self-disciplined and think before you act. All of the energy and self-belief in the world will not help you, if you cannot be self-disciplined in completing tasks.

- Schedule everything, schedule all of your tasks inside ACT. Without a schedule, everything ends up in a chaotic mess of random activity. But scheduling is not enough if you don't work with your schedule.

- Organize your work. You can't be efficient unless you're organised. You don't have to be firm about it, but you must have some system for organising your work. Any system is better than no system, but whatever system you choose, it should organize your tasks in a doable program.

- Learn to manage your time efficiently. Make your workday more effective to grow your business. Take control of your life. Use the best used techniques in the art of goal setting, planning, organizing, prioritizing and delegation.

It's a good idea if you spend 15 minutes per day planning; controlling time robbers; organising paperwork; and delegating effectively.

Work on relationship building.

The relationship is very important because it enables your business to develop, and enables you to learn and benefit in many ways. You make time for other things in your life every day, and your work on your relationship should be no different. You need to reserve time each day to get your relationship recharged.

The right relationship is everything. If people don't like you, you're not going to be successful with them. Remember, people won't go along with you if they can't get along with you. If people don't like you or trust you or understand you, their not going to buy from you, no matter how much you know about business.

Building relationship online may be somewhat more difficult compared to meeting a customer in person in offline business, you can accomplish this if you think of your potential clients in each step you make when building your business.

Learn to do these things for your own peace of mind. Not only your business can benefit; but every aspect of your life can benefit when you take responsibility and take control.

Article Body:
If you are interested in starting an online home business, or taking over one, you face a daunting task that carries a level of risk and excitement not possible in the 'employee' world.

If the financial independence of self-employment appeals to you - no boss, no income limits as to time and wage, and the ability to let your personal drive determine your compensation - then you will no doubt be eagerly going over the many options available to release you from your current job.

However, the rush of financial excitement must be tempered by the necessary cost of time, money and effort in properly setting yourself up independently.

Despite income claims made by business opportunity companies, or competing businesses, you must be ready to accept the reality of not seeing personal income for several months - or even years.

Starting a self-employed online home business on the side, while keeping regular employment as your financial security, is a wise method of ensuring your income.

Another option is to have substantial savings that permit you the freedom to pursue your dreams unencumbered with other employment. However, the savings must also be capable of carrying the costs of developing an online home business along with providing for your material needs.

Do you also recognize the time that is required in starting your own online home business? In some ways it is almost unnecessary to bring up the point since your passion will likely drive you to spend many hours in your pursuits. If you have other obligations; family, job, social etc. then you will have to consider if you CAN devote the time needed to get your online home business off the ground.

Having discussed both money and time, you must recognize that there is much more effort extended BEFORE a business is profitable than at any other time in your business. Yes, once you are getting work and are satisfied with the income level you may be very busy indeed but you will then be compensated for it. When you are still cultivating your business - marketing, doing free jobs, searching for clients and customers - you may not be seeing any income, or a very meager one, which makes your EFFORTS seem immense.

Do not falter! If you come to the point when you are working your hardest and doing everything your online home business requires but still not seeing monetary results, you may hit a psychological wall. This is where truly entrepreneurial individuals see an obstacle to overcome as opposed to a dead-end to their hard work. Passion for their work and the strong desire to work for themselves overcomes any perceived barriers and moves them to keep going and ultimately becoming very successful.

By persevering you will certainly see the fine fruits of your labors and prove to yourself and others that the benefits of self-employment far outweigh the mediocre status quo of the typical worker's daily grind.

Ok, you've got your web site set up, you are sure that it is search engine friendly and you are pretty certain what your customers want. You've identified at least 3 affiliate programs/products that you want to promote and you think that they meet your potential customer's needs. So now what?

Well unfortunately the days, that I can remember, of "build it and they will come" have long gone.  Unless you promote your web site – no one will know that you are there and no visitors means no sales.  So where so you go from here?

Well take a deep breath, a pen and paper and let's start on your Marketing Strategy.  Briefly for a new business, with a relatively inexperienced marketer, your strategy will probably include the following options:

? Pay Per Click Advertising
? Article Marketing
? Email Marketing
? Community Marketing
? Classified Advertising

So let's get started – and before you start panicking, you are just writing your Marketing Strategy. This course will explain how to do all of the following.

Your Advertising Kit

For each of your programs/products

1. Write a short advert – say 50 words.
2. Write a very short advert – say 15 words
3. Write a short article – say about 400 – 600 words.
4. Decide on your keywords – say about 30 – 50 words.

Your Marketing Kit

For your web site theme

1. Write at least 6 short auto responder messages.
2. Find or write at least 2 giveaway products.

Your Marketing Tools

1. Your web site
2. An autoresponder
3. A good email account

Now let's put all of these together into your first Marketing Strategy.

1. Submit your web site to all the major search engines.  This will start to get your web site noticed.  As this takes a long time, it needs to be the first thing that you do.  You can do this yourself or pay someone else to do this for you.  We provide this service for our customers for $20 a month, which includes submission to Google, Yahoo and MSN.
2. Set up your autoresponder form on your web site and load your messages into the autoresponder.  Ensure that you offer one of the giveaway products as a bonus for signing onto your ezine. The second giveaway can be set up for message 3 or 4. Your messages should be sent in the following intervals. Day 1,3,7,7,7,7
3. Set up your download pages, for your bonus products as well as the products you are selling.  Ensure that you provide an extra offer on each download page.
4. Submit your article – including your resource box, to about 6 major ezine article sites.  Limit yourself to 6 at the moment.  Each of these submissions, if accepted will give you a link to your web site.  If too many links to your new web site appear very quickly, search engines assume that you have been using "black hat" SEO tactics (a total no no) and will not list your site.
5. Identify 4 forums that discuss the topics of your web site.  Set yourself up an account name that describes you well.  We use the name "Biz Guru"  which is our trade mark and name. Set up your signature to include your web site address.  Start answering questions asked within the forums.  Do NOT post adverts for your web site or products.  Use this time to establish your credentials.  If you answer questions well and contribute to the forums, your web site tag will be noticed.
6. Set up a PPC campaign – you can start with the smaller search engines first.  Take your very small advert and your keywords and use them in your campaign.  Most search engines will help you with your choice of keywords.  Remember to set a budget and test, test and test again until you get quality and converting traffic.
7. Set up some classified ads. You can do this one of two ways: i)choose one or two major sites/email lists and advertise with them. ii) use an ezine ad blaster to send your ad out to numerous lower quality places.
8. Test, Update and Modify. Review, change and add to your PPC keywords. Submit more articles and adverts.  Start tactfully promoting your products in the forums.

Well that's the what to do – we'll go into the how to's in greater detail in the following weeks.

An Internet Marketing Lesson I Learned From My 7 Year Old Grandson

An Internet Marketing Lesson I Learned From My 7 Year Old Grandson

Summary:
A few weeks ago I was watching my 7 year old Grandson Joel as he was drawing a picture of a strawberry patch.

As he drew, it began to look more and more like a Christmas wreath than a strawberry patch. I told him that it looked pretty good, but suggested to him that "maybe you could put a few strawberries here, and here and here" as I pointed to the big white area in the middle of his drawing.

He looked at me in all seriousness and said...

"Grandpa, it doesn't matter what YOU think, it's what the artist thinks!"

It was funny at the time, but I have been thinking about this quite a bit.

You know what? He is right!

There is a great lesson to be learned here. The lesson applies very well to Internet marketing. Actually it applies well to ANY kind of marketing, it doesn't necessarily have to be on the internet.

We have a tendancy to come up with an idea that we think is the greatest thing since sliced bread. We're absolutely convinced that everybody will beat a path to our door to buy our product. We spend lots of money to develop a sales campaign, build a website, buy advertising and so on, and spend a lot of time and effort to draw people to our website, get good search engine positioning, and then more often than not we're disappointed because very few people buy our products.

Could it be that the marketplace doesn't care about our opinion?

Does that hurt your ego? It shouldn't. It should open your eyes to this very simple, but wildly profound truth.

IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK, IT'S WHAT THE MARKETPLACE THINKS THAT IS IMPORTANT!

Big companies spend millions of dollars on market research, testing and surveys before they ever spend any money in developing a product or marketing a product. Doesn't it make sense that before we ever spend a dime on any kind of product development, website development or whatever that we should spend some time first to find out what people are buying, when do they buy, and how do they buy?

By doing proper research in advance, you'll save yourself a lot of wasted time and effort, and you'll be rewarded many times over by successful, money making websites. Finding profitable "niches" is not a difficult process, but it can make all the difference in the world as to whether or not your website will be a huge success or a dismal failure.

As you consider what kind of websites you'll be building, keep in mind the lesson learned from a 7 year old.

If you are interested in trying to make money from your blog, you probably want to know how you can best optimize your blog for great search engine results. After all, most people stumble upon blogs when doing a search for something. If you use these optimization tips effectively, it may be your blog more people are drawn to. So, check these tips out and experiment with your own blog. Note what has the best results and stay with it. Change the other things around a bit until you get the results out of them that you want.

Simple Content

Many experts say that the best way to optimize your blog is to keep everything very simple. You can choose one quality content topic and make it your base. Then from there you can use variations of the topic in order to keep everything going. This may seem like a broad and useless tip, but once you get into blogging more and more, you understand how important it is.

Put More Out There

If you are trying to get more of a presence on search engines, be sure that you have something to show. The more content you have, the more likely you are to show up on a search engine. Bigger sites always do better than smaller sites. It is simply a numbers game. Search engines will see your site in a different manner, depending on how much content you have. The more content you have, the more there is a chance there will be that someone will stumble onto your site.

Ask Search Engines for Help

Few people know that you can actually submit your site to search engines. Submit your site's URL and ask to be put into the index. This can take a while, but if they do list you in the index, you will see a larger increase in traffic. Beware however of a service that asks for money in exchange for getting your sites into search engines. These can be a little misleading at times. There are ways to do this without needing to pay anyone at all.

Keyword Pay

A great idea for optimization is to identify the most popular keywords. By doing this, you are essentially targeting the keywords that people most often search for. When you do this, you have an edge over the competition. When you know exactly what the people are looking for, you can give them just that. Once you have a list of keywords, simply create articles that use these keywords. By creating these articles, you are putting yourself out there to be found. When someone does a search for those keywords, your blog just might pop up on their screen. Be careful not to use the keyword so much that your article does not make sense however.

Daily Updates

If you really want the best optimization, you should update it daily at the least. The more you update it, the more often search engines will index your blog. Therefore, you will want to be sure your blog is always fresh. Adding new information is the best way to update your blog. The more new information you have, the better off you will be! Just be sure that when you do update, it is for a good reason. You should always remember that content can have a purpose, but it should always be quality content. If you compromise content, you are only allowing yourself to strip the creativity from your project. If you are happy with doing that, by all means go ahead. However, as a writer, you will have a certain responsibility to web surfers. Unless you want everything on the web to be useless, do your part!

Use these tips to help optimize your blog and get the most from search engines. The more you post and use these tips, the more results you will see. If you earn your living from the number of clicks your blog or your ads get, this will essentially mean more money for you. You can use all of them or some of them. Experiment with them to see what works best for you and your blog. Put these tips to use and watch your results rise today!

Using Articles to Build Your List

Using Articles to Build Your List
Word Count:
684
Summary:
Articles are one of the best means of getting new subscribers and customers and retaining them. This paper discusses how articles can be used for this purpose virtually free of cost.

Keywords:
article marketing, list building, opt in leads, growing list

Article Body:
How do you feel when you see webpages in the Google search with your name ? I am presently surprised every time Google alert informs me that one more webpage with my name has been indexed.
But why would Google index those pages? I remember submitting just one page when my first website came into existence. Yet Google search with my name will show up thousands of pages.
The reason is not difficult to find. It is because of my articles which are published at numerous sites. This is one of the privileges of being an author – free publicity for months and years after the articles are submitted to just few ezines.
This and many other features make articles effective vehicles to find opt-in leads. If you publish relevant and useful articles on your website or blog, you can include a webform to collect contact details of interested persons. This will ensure that only those who have some interest in the subject of the articles will seek further information.
When you submit articles to ezines, you have the option to add a resource box. This is where you can tell the readers about yourself and how they can get more information. Your articles give you wide publicity, build up your credibility and help you to establish yourself as an expert in the field. It is amazing how your articles are picked up by so many different websites and ezines and distributed with viral effect.
In any marketing effort it is easier to find eager customers first and then offer suitable products which will satisfy their expectations. Your articles can help you do just that. It will first attract people, who are looking for information on resolving their problems, concerns or desire. Those who want to know more will ask for it and you get more people in your list. You get a chance to contact your list repeatedly and try to remove any apprehensions or doubts they may have about what you have to offer. You need to sell yourself as much as your product and again you accomplish this with your articles.
The "list" should be considered and treated as a list of friends. You should try to connect to them at emotional level. This is a crucial factor in building relationship. Your intent is revealed by your writing. Therefore it is crucial to be absolutely honest about the message you wish to convey.
The cost involved in using articles for advertisement is negligible. Yet it is profoundly effective. Well written articles full of content and useful information will help in building your list as more subscribers join. Your writing should be able to produce that anticipation by which your subscribers will be looking forward to the next newsletter.
This is a step to make your list more responsive. As more people find your articles interesting and relevant your conversion rate is bound to increase. You know your subscribers, you know what is bothering them and you offer solutions to them. They joined your list for this reason in the first place. Retaining a list is as important as building it. The longer your subscribers remain loyal to you, the more they will trust you and they are more likely to listen to your advice.
It would appear that there is a natural connection between writing articles and building a list. The articles you see on the net have characters of their own. They are presented in conversational form as if someone is talking to you. This is different from the articles your find in printed media where the articles tend to be are more essay-type. This unique feature of net-based articles makes them suitable for newsletters. Emails are most common medium for maintaining contact with your list. You are able to communicate to them at regular intervals and gradually clear their apprehensions.
Once you have a growing list your aim should be to retain it for lifetime. You and your list are bound by a common interest and personal relationship. This is your most important asset – the real earnings for your marketing efforts.

The clinical research software you choose is designed to make the process of conducting clinical trials, more efficient, more organized, more accurate, and more profitable. It enables research administrators to closely manage study operations and financials, while making daily operations easier and less error-prone for coordinators, recruiters, physicians, and other staff.
Companies are under increasing pressure to replace revenue sources as blockbuster drugs come off patent. With new drug discoveries focusing on smaller, targeted populations, and market dynamics limiting the revenue potential of other drugs, life science companies are being forced to lower development costs and bring more drugs to market. This, in addition to recent drug safety concerns, substantial increases in data volume, and rising cost pressures, present these organizations with some very significant business challenges. According to a Tufts University study, it costs an average of $800 million to get a new drug to market. Clinical trials account for the bulk of this number. Fine-tuning existing, paper-based trial processes to lower costs has reached its limits. Changing to good clinical research software can help companies realize significant cost savings, as well as time, efficiency, and quality gains. The software creates a comprehensive data capture and management environment to conduct electronic, paper-based, and hybrid clinical trials as well as facilitates quicker, accurate and less resource-intensive data capture and validation through front-end EDC integration. By leveraging the clinical software site-based electronic data collection, the amount of time required for data entry is reduced, redundant workflow is eliminated, and data accuracy is improved. The automated point-of-entry cleaning capabilities help decrease query cut resolution cycle times, volume, and lower operational costs. You choose where to execute edit checks, selecting the system most suited for resolution. Automated query synchronization moves final resolved queries back to the system, complete with a single consolidated query audit trail history. Batch loading and batch validation, lab loading, lab normal-range checking and advanced coding features are all fully supported in the system.
Both systems work in an integrated manner to provide the most comprehensive dataset possible in the shortest amount of time. Faster data entry and faster data cleaning make clinical data available earlier for faster database lock.

Al Gore Really Did Invent The Internet

Al Gore Really Did  Invent The Internet

I worked in media and covered Congress, The White House, and many other types of chaos. I will share a little secret I learned about politics while I was there. It is really not all that glamorous at all (like you didn't know that). In fact, they really are "public servants" and we are the boss. But I digress. Often they don't know that.

In fact about 100% of the time they don't know (or seem to care). If I had to write a "job description" for, let's say, The President, (and I am not kidding here), it would be "For hire, the most glamorous policy wonk within the beltway. Highly looked up to for signing a lot of papers that you don't even have to read because they've all been read for you."  Sad but true. But this story is about Al Gore and the Internet. A lot of mystery still revolves around the creation of the Super Highway. You can believe my story or not. But I can assure you it is the real thing and I got it straight from the horse's mouth. And the horse was not Al Gore.

In 1969, a group of computer students at Stanford were working on a communications project. Though it is vague as to which of them invented which piece of hardware, a young student named Vinton Cerf, was credited for inventing TCP/IP, the engine that runs what is now known as The Internet. Vinton, now Dr. Vinton Cerf, is known as The Father Of The Internet." It did not take Vint long before he also realized he had developed some sort of business that might make it big one day. He took the system to the government who immediately bought it and used it as a communication device between the Pentagon and (I think) the White House, but I can't remember exactly what Vinton told me. Yes, he told me. And he told me the Al Gore connection and yes, there is one. Sorry Republicans who used it as a joke for years. It really is true.

The government decided to call the device Arapnet and it was used for many years for intra-government communications. I think they eventually added some universities to their menu too. Five years went by and Vinton approached a young unknown congressman from Tennessee named Al Gore. Gore was not yet even a senator. He explained his invention and that he felt it could be beneficial if it was to be available to the entire marketplace, not just for government private conversations. A lot of fighting and stonewalling went on. "Too much information for the public," seemed to be the common argument. But Gore formed a committee and coined the term "Information Superhighway" and pushed the bill through. Suddenly, the public had what was now known as The Internet and even domain parking.

Gore's exact words, by the way, in his speech on the Internet were, "I created the incentive to invent the Internet." In political terms that means, "I pushed a bill through that changed things dramatically."  And Al Gore did exactly what he said he did according to Dr. Cerf. Ironically, I did not meet Dr. Cerf while living in Washington, but after I had gone back home to Mississippi to take care of an ailing parent. I met him over the net through his fondness of my cartoon website, Londons Times Cartoons, and he eventually asked my cartoon team to create a custom-cartoon featuring him (he was humble and very nice), and we did so. We keep a copy of it on our website as well. Vinton has it framed in his home.

The Internet was still limited for another ten years until an MIT professor named Tim Berners-Lee invented a software called The World Wide Web. That is when it became very accessible to all. My point, though, is, without Al Gore's persistence, and ability to explain how important such a communications device was and is to the public, Dr. Cerf felt like it would have remained The Arapnet and only glamorous policy wonks and Pentagon workers would be using it to communicate. I sort of doubt they would even form a "White House blog".

So, next time you hear someone joke "Yeah, and Al Gore invented the Internet," you can answer, "Yes, I know."

Just because your business is on the Internet doesn't mean you should limit yourself to online advertising. Search engines and email marketing aren't the only way to drive customer traffic to your website after all. First of all there is the ever-important business card, which should be kept close at hand at all times, and handed out to everyone you meet. Flyers and newspapers as well as other community media can also help raise awareness of your online business. By adding local advertising methods to your online efforts, you can greatly enhance your chance of success.

Business Cards

Business cards are the first must-have of every businessperson whether online or offline, big corporation or smallest home-based business. A great many companies offer inexpensive but professional looking business cards in a variety of styles appropriate for any type of occupation. If you have a good quality printer and a little know-how, you can attempt to print out your own business cards. Both methods cost about the same when you consider card stock and printer ink, so it's really a personal preference which you choose.

If you decide to order your business cards from a professional printing company, you next need to choose whether you will go to a storefront business or order your cards online. Personally, online is probably less expensive and just as good quality but you will have to wait for the cards to be shipped to you. If you're the impatient type a storefront might be quicker but you will still have to wait for them to print up and if there is any sort of backlog, that could take awhile too.

Flyers

Flyers can be a help in advertising your business if you carefully consider where to place them. If your product is geared towards a certain age group, college students or senior citizens for example, hang your flyers at locations where individuals in that age range tend to frequent such as universities or senior centers. It is best to get a professional to make the flyers for you since most home printers don't have the capabilities and store bought flyer sheets aren't the greatest. Choose a style that matches the style of your business, professional, elegant, fun and wacky, whatever your business mission stands for.

Press Releases

A highly effective and inexpensive advertising method is press releases. A press release is a short statement you send out to local newspapers and magazines that speaks of your business's mission and the service or product you offer. Press releases don't cost anything but your time unless you hire someone to write it for you, which can be money well spent if you have little experience with press releases.

Article Body:
Today's marketplace offers lots of choices in terms of retirement planning vehicles. The 401(k) (or 403(b) for the nonprofit sector) and Individual Retirement Account (IRA) are two of the most common. While they share some similarities, the differences are more important for the impact they could have on the growth of your retirement funds. However, though the differences are clear, the question of which type of account is better does not have a clear answer. As you will see below, some features of the accounts may be perceived by some as advantages and as disadvantages by others. Investment preferences and retirement are personal matters, so you should weigh the options carefully before you choose an account that makes the most sense for you. In fact, if you can afford to contribute to both types of accounts, you should do so to round out your investment portfolio.

Tax advantages

The most obvious and impressive similarity between a 401(k) and IRA is the tax benefit. Money placed in both types of accounts is tax free until you withdraw and use it. More accurately, it is tax deferred. You defer the tax until you use the money. The same is true for money earned by these accounts—until you take it out, you don't have to pay income tax on the earnings. Recent tax law changes also allow tax credits for certain types of IRAs under specific conditions. Check with your tax professional to see if opening an IRA to take advantage of such credits would be beneficial for you.

The tax benefits of an IRA are income-dependent. If you make more than an allowed amount in a given year, your contributions to your IRA may not bring any tax advantage at all. Furthermore, IRA contributions may not be fully deductible if you contribute to a 401(k) in addition to your IRA. Once again, it is smart to check with a tax professional so that you can plan your retirement contributions to maximize your tax benefits.

There is also a down side to these tax benefits. If you withdraw money from your IRA or 401(k) before you reach age 59 (and one half!), you will not only have to pay tax on the amount you withdraw, but will most likely be stuck with an early withdrawal penalty as well. The safest route is to not touch these accounts until you retire. If you must tap these funds, do so only with the advice of a tax professional so you are not surprised by unpleasant notices from the IRS come April 15.

Contribution Limits

Because the money you put into retirement accounts is tax deferred, the IRS limits the amount you may stash away. The amounts change based on your age and the rate of inflation (and the whims of Congress), but generally, $2,000 is the limit for IRAs and approximately $10,000 is the limit for 401(k) plans. Learn the rules and limits and consult with an adviser to learn how to maximize the tax advantages available to you.

Employee Benefit vs Individual Account

The biggest difference is simply that a 401(k) is offered as part of an employee benefits package, while an IRA is owned and administered by the individual account holder. This difference accounts for one of the major advantages of a 401(k) over an IRA: your employer usually matches your contribution to your plan up to a given percentage. For instance, if your contribute 2% of your pay to your 401(k) each pay period, your employer might match your contributions, essentially doubling your money. For many people, this benefit alone is reason enough to choose a 401(k) over an IRA if they must choose one or the other.

Freedom of Choice

There are also disadvantages inherent in the company ownership of the 401(k). Because more than one person owns funds in the overall account, a third party, usually an insurance company or other financial institution, administers the account. This results in less freedom for you in administrative options, such as changing, starting, or stopping contributions and in how your funds are allocated. For instance, company 401(k) plans might offer 10 mutual funds to which you can distribute your money out of the many thousands that are available. Because you are the sole owner and administrator of an IRA, by contrast, you can place the money in any investment vehicle for which you're qualified. That freedom is essential for hands-on types who prefer to manage their own affairs and accept credit or blame for success and failure.

For some, this freedom is not an advantage at all; some people do not want to trouble themselves with asset allocation and mutual fund performance. If that describes you, a 401(k) would better serve your needs because your employer's plan likely has an account manager watching its performance to maximize security and returns.

Whatever your preference, you are not limited to one choice or the other. Many people have both a 401(k) through their employers and an IRA. If you can afford it, contribute the maximum allowable amounts to both accounts. You'll enjoy the tax advantages now and will be better prepared for retirement in the future.

Following are five ways that can help increase your rankings in the search engines and gain much needed exposure.

Traffic Exchanges

These are exceptional tools when used right. It can be used with great success when dealing with MLM, affiliate marketing and home based business opportunities.

One of the best ways to use traffic exchanges is to create your own separate landing page for the product or opportunity you're promoting. Always try to stand out from the crowd by using something other than what all the other affiliates are using. You can build your own landing pages for free here:

Then by simply enticing other surfers with some free information and using an autoresponder to capture their name and email address you can quickly build your own opt-in list of interested prospects. Getresponse.com is a good option, and has a paid and free option.

Write a Newsletter

While this may seem time consuming, it really doesn't have to be. There are hundreds of article directories floating around with articles written by experts in almost every field. Infogoround is a very good one.

Simply use them within the guidelines prescribed by the directory and author, add a few lines from yourself as an introduction and throw in an ad and you've got yourself a newsletter.

Write and Submit Your Own Articles

As the previous point shows, there are many hundreds of article directories out there and literally thousands of web sites, ezines and newsletter publishers looking for new and unique content every day. In Isnare.com you can submit 5 articles to thousands of directories for $10.

By writing your own articles and including a link back to your site you're not only branding yourself as an expert but also creating valuable back links to your site. This is a huge factor when it comes to search engine rankings which bring the best free traffic.

Online Communities and Forums

By joining online forums you can also gain back links to your site by posting comments and using a sig file with your links in it.

Beware though that most forums frown on blatant advertising. You have to attempt to add something of worth with your posts or you may get banned. Adlandpro is one of the best online communities to promote your business. You can join here:

Exchange Links

This may actually be the most difficult tactic. You must find sites that are in the same niche as yours but not necessarily in direct competition.

You also have to find sites that already have a good ranking in the search engines for this to be effective.

Always approach any site owner with grace and dignity. Be tactful and courteous. Remember, you attract more flies with honey than vinegar.

Use all five of these tactics on a regular basis and you'll surely see a climb in traffic and search engine ranking.
